Why should it be necessary for your wedding video to capture only the main event, dance, and guests? There is a lot more that you could include making it even more memorable for you. Many wedding videographers today are offering additional things you could get to make your video even better. And while the available options vary between companies, the common options generally include the following:
Extended Highlights Version
Most videographers will provide you with a wedding video that lasts between 60 to 90 minutes, and many offer just a brief “highlight” reel of no more than five minutes, which is perfect for posting on social media that includes Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and even YouTube. We’re sure you’ll want to watch the full-length version over and over again, and anyone who knows you will enjoy the mini version.
But what about friends and family who want to see more of it but don’t have an hour and a half to spend? For them, something in between might be perfect. And this is exactly why some videographers offer the option of extended highlights. The duration of extended highlights is around 30 minutes, and it takes into account all the key points – the vows, the kiss, the cake cutting, and the other special moments. It picks the best bits of the speeches and the dancing and gives a really good impression of the day without going overboard with the detail.
Speak with your local wedding videographers for all available options before you hire them
This is a popular option that gives you and your guests the opportunity during the reception to say a few words. This can be done in many ways. One of the many ways is setting up a room with a chair or two and a video camera. You can create a Big Brother-style “diary room,” with guests filtering in a few at a time to speak to the camera.
The other option is where your videographer goes up to people throughout the reception and requests that they say a few words. The guests usually oblige and are happy to say a few words to the camera. Often there are a few guests who say wonderful, touchy things about you and your special day, offer advice for a happy married life, or just take the opportunity to tell you how they feel about you.
Love Story Video
Like a pre-wedding photoshoot, this is a video that is filmed before the wedding. The two of you are filmed at home or at a place that is close to your hearts, and your videographer has you play the main roles in telling the story of your relationship. This can be shown at the reception or even be used as a part of the introduction to your wedding film. It’s a great way to get to know your videographer so that you are aware of how comfortable you will feel with them and their camera on your wedding day.
This is essentially a slideshow of photos, usually set to music. Some couples prefer to use shots of each of them growing up to start the wedding video or photos of them throughout the different stages of their relationship. With the permission of the wedding photographer, it could be a montage of your wedding photos, or, you might also choose a collection of your honeymoon photos.
Are any of these options really necessary?
The simple answer is no. If you have a tight budget, it’s reasonable that you would want to use it to get the most coverage on the wedding day from the best videographer you can find within your budget. However, if you have a little extra money to spend, and you want your wedding video to be something really special, these extras can definitely add to the charm and give you something memorable to hang on to for years to come.
