Believe it or not, but there’s more that one type of wedding ceremony. If you look around the world, you’ll see happy couples tying the not in a variety of different ways. Today, I thought it’d be a good idea to shine the light on the most popular wedding ceremonies around. There are almost too many to talk about, so I’ve tried to include the top ones.
This is a traditional religious wedding that takes place in a place of worship. Obviously, different religions and cultures will have their own versions of a traditional wedding. In the western world, this is typically a ceremony in a church, conducted by a priest, and including pre-determined religious vows.
This type of wedding ceremony is similar to a traditional one, but with a more relaxed view on religion. It can still take place in a church or other place of worship, and other elements of the traditional wedding are incorporated. But, it can also be performed away from religious places of worship, yet still cling to a few conventional norms. They’re popular amongst couples that want a traditional wedding but aren’t that religious.
Civil ceremonies are non-religious and usually take place in the office of a government official. Instead of being married by a religious figure – like a priest – you’re married by someone from the government. This ceremony doesn’t last long and is used to quickly give the two of you a proper marriage license. If you’re in a hurry and want to save money by avoiding an expensive wedding, then this is the option for you.
These have become more popular over the last few years. Many people don’t view themselves as religious but do believe in some sort of spiritual power. As a result, a spiritual wedding is designed around these beliefs. It can involve reading from various spiritual texts, and you will be married by anyone that can legally perform a wedding ceremony.
Some couples don’t want to make a big event out of their wedding. This can be due to shyness, or they want to save money. In either case, small weddings are ideal. Here, you can follow a traditional or non-traditional approach, but on a smaller scale. Some people only invite immediate family to the event, while others broaden things just slightly. But, the idea is that you have a wedding on a much smaller scale than usual.
Lastly, themed weddings are extremely popular around the world. This mainly applies to wedding ceremonies that focus on a specific theme or concept. For example, a vintage wedding, weddings that relate to TV shows or films, specific colour schemes, etc. They can be very fun and quirky, and lead to some of the most unique weddings around.
The bottom line is that you have lots of different wedding ceremonies to choose from. Each one has it’s pros and cons – it’s up to you to decide which one suits you best.
