Should I Hire a Wedding Videographer?

If there’s any day that should be etched into your memory forever, it’s your wedding day. After all, it’s a day that you’ve been looking forward to for years. You’ve put hours and hours of time into planning every single detail. You’ve chosen the perfect venue, picked the best decorations, and ordered your favourite flowers. Family and friends have come from miles away to celebrate with you, many even playing a part in the ceremony. You’re dressed to the nines, of course, as is your soon-to-be spouse.

Photos may suffice for all these things, but what about the ceremony? What about the exchanging of vows, the kiss, and the cutting of the cake? Of course, you’d want to remember such an event! Sure, you can rely on your memory. But wouldn’t you want a way to commemorate the event and see it from another point of view?

I still can’t convince myself why should I hire a professional wedding videographer to capture my special day?

Just about everyone has a smart device with a camera or even a point-and-shoot. Why pay for a professional videographer when you could just have a friend or relative take some short videos to remember what happened? Well, there are several reasons why you’d probably regret this.

First of all, having a friend take a video on your phone means that you’ll only be getting one point of view. Having a video taken on your phone will also yield poor sound quality. Most wedding venues are not optimized for sound and professional equipment is needed to capture your wedding without other noises getting in the way.

Smartphones and point-and-shoot cameras often film on autofocus. This means that focus may shift from time to time when people move in front of the camera. Additionally, colours won’t be well-balanced and exposure will be off. These are all things that can be avoided with the help of a professional videographer.

Even a decent smartphone video will be difficult to edit. Professional videographers don’t just sell their equipment – they sell their skills. These people are expert editors and have the skills, equipment, and software to produce an amazing wedding video that will bring a tear to your eye. This is something you won’t get with an amateur video.

Finally, your friend or relative is an attendee of your wedding. They want to enjoy the event too. Oftentimes that means they will get distracted at some point during the ceremony and fail to get the perfect shot. You can’t re-do the very same wedding all over again so once you’ve missed the moment, it’s gone.

Professional wedding videographers are able to preserve memories so that you can enjoy them time and time again. Photos may remind you of the special day, but videos will truly take you back to the place where you said: “I do.”
